UDHAMPUR, Oct 15: In a major success, Udhampur Police recovered 239 kg of contraband poppy straw from a truck at Jakhani naka, here today.
The Ashok Leyland vehicle, bearing Registration Number JK04H-3149, was intercepted by a Police party of Police Station Udhampur while performing naka checking at Jakhani Chowk. Police team found some bags inside the truck in which total 239 kg poppy straw was filled.
On questioning, the driver of the truck disclosed his identity as Nazir Ahmed, son of Habib Ullah Budoo of Choon, Budgam and his associate Pervaiz, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat of Beerwah, Budgam. Both of them were arrested on the spot.

In this regard, a case FIR number 532/2023, Under Section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in PS Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
The naka party was headed by SHO Udhampur, Inspector Raghubir Singh, under the supervision of Addl SP Udhampur Anwaar Ul Haq and DySP Hqrs Udhampur Gurmeet Singh.
