GCET first institution of J&K with full NBA accreditation: Registrar

JAMMU, Oct 16: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu has become the first institute of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in 2023 to get the accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for all the five undergraduate engineering programmes.
This was stated by Registrar of the institute in a press statement issued in response to a news item and an editorial earlier published by this newspaper.
“NBA accreditation for all the five UG engineering programs in civil, computer, electrical, electronics, and communication, is a testament to this institution’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a high-quality infrastructure and a dedicated team of educators,” he said in the statement.
Pertinently, the graduates from the NBA accredited programmes get better placements and acceptance in higher education institutions worldwide.
He also clarified that the GCET Jammu possesses fully developed infrastructure, which includes well-furnished labs equipped with the latest technology and resources, workshops, library, lecture halls, smart classrooms, and computer computing facility.
The GCET Registrar said that AICTE, under the Government of India, has consistently granted the Extension of Approval (EoA) to GCET every year without reported deficiencies.
According to him, the institute continually invests in upgrading its infrastructure with the support of the Union Territory Government and Central-Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
Notably, from 2017 to 2022, GCET availed the prestigious Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in collaboration with the World Bank, a project bestowed upon only GCET in the region.
He further stated that GCET Jammu also provides accommodation for 200 male students from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Additionally, transportation services are also available.
According to him, the institution adheres to well-defined recruitment rules for both teaching and non-teaching staff. The recruitment agency, Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), has advertised vacant teaching faculty positions with a written examination scheduled for October 22, 2023.
As far as School of Architecture is concerned, he said, the construction of the same is nearing completion and expected to the completed by December 2023. Further, the vacant faculty positions have been advertised by the recruitment agency, JKPSC, and the selection process is underway.
GCET Jammu has also established valuable Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with esteemed institutions and organizations, enriching the learning environment for students and staff.
