JAMMU, Oct 17: Pakistan violated ceasefire along the International Border (IB) in Arnia sector of Jammu district tonight and opened unprovoked firing causing injuries to two jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF).
There was no report of an immediate retaliation from the BSF.
Also, there was no official statement from the BSF till late tonight on ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Rangers.
Reports said the Pakistani Rangers opened firing on the International Border in Arnia sector of Jammu district tonight.
Two BSF jawans were injured in the firing. They were evacuated from their post by their colleagues and admitted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu where their condition was stated to be stable.
Injured BSF jawans have been identified as Alok Saha and Surjeet Vishwas, both residents of West Bengal.
Though the BSF till late tonight didn’t comment on the incident, sources said the BSF didn’t retaliate immediately.
Ceasefire violation by the Pakistani Rangers on the International Border came after a long time as there have been no firing between the two sides since fresh ceasefire agreement came into effect on February 24, 2021.
However, some infiltration attempts and bids by the Rangers and militants to smuggle arms and narcotics using drones on the International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts were successfully foiled by the BSF.
Large quantity of arms, explosives, narcotics and cash had earlier been recovered by the BSF jawans and police which had been smuggled using drones. For past many months, no major drone activity has been sighted on the International Border.
The BSF has been maintaining high alert on the International Border.
On the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts, the ceasefire has been holding though a number of infiltration attempts by the militants have been foiled by the Army.
