JAMMU, Oct 18: Traffic on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway and Mughal Road was restored today after the landslides and snow clearance work.
Official sources said that since early morning the National Highway authorities pressed four machines/JCBs in Mehar and Cafeteria Morh area near Ramban for road clearance work. The road was cleared at around 7.30 am and then the traffic was restored.
In Dalwas area the road had turned very slippery. At this stretch the dry muck from the tunnel was spread to ensure movement of the vehicles, specially the loaded trucks. The movement of light vehicles was allowed last evening via Maitra and Old Jhulla bridge over river Chenab.
Meanwhile, Mughal road was also reopened for vehicular movement after two days today. Sources said that there was snowfall at Pir ki Gali and its adjoining areas of both Shopian as well as Poonch side after which authorities closed the road for vehicular movement and now after its clearance the road has been thrown open for traffic.
Executive Engineer Mughal Road Division Shoket Ali said that his team was repeatedly clearing snow on Mughal Road after October 16 but there was again snowfall due to which vehicular movement was not possible. “The weather was good today and we engage our machinery and cleared snow today to throw the road open for traffic,” he added.
DySP Traffic Mughal Road Nawaz Chowhan said that vehicular movement has been allowed after the clearance of snow at Peer Ki Gali axis and the cut off timing will be from 6 am in the morning to 6 pm in the evening.
