JAMMU, Oct 21: Former Sadar-e-Riyasat and scion of the erstwhile Royal Dogra family, Dr Karan Singh and others today paid rich tribute to Maharaja Gulab Singh on his 231st birth anniversary.
To celebrate the occasion, a function was organized by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at Amar Mahal, wherein Dr Karan Singh underlined the necessity of revisiting the life and achievements of Maharaja Gulab Singh.
“Maharaja Gulab Singh was one of the rare rulers in Indian history that left a footprint of his sovereignty in the difficult terrain of Gilgit, Baltistan, Ladakh and Tibet,” he said and lamented that achievements and contributions of the Maharaja unfortunately remained a matter of marginal concern for historians engaged in the historical reconstruction.
On the occasion, Dr Karan Singh presented the prestigious Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2023 to Kritika Khanna for her contribution in the field of sports. Kritika is the recipient of Bronze medal at a Para-rowing team event in the Asian Rowing Championship 2019 held in South Korea.
The function begun with welcome address by Vikramaditya Singh, Trustee, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust. Dr S N Pandita spoke about the life of Maharaja Gulab Singh. This was followed by the reading of the citation by Ajatshatru Singh, Trustee, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust. The vote of thanks was presented by Brig J S Rajput, Member Secretary of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust.

Dr Karan Singh also visited Raghunath Temple this morning where he paid glorious tribute to the Maharaja Gulab Singh. He also performed Puranahuti of the Yagya being held in the memory of Maharaja Gulab Singh on his birth anniversary.
Paying rich tribute to Maharaja Gulab Singh, Dr Karan Singh termed the great Maharaja’s rule as a glorious period of Jammu and Kashmir Kingdom. He recalled the laudable achievements of Maharaja Gulab Singh and described him as a great visionary, brave and enterprising ruler who did justice to all and treated the subjects as his own family.
On the occasion, Dr Karan Singh, who is the Chairman Trustee of Dharmarth Trust, announced 20 percent Diwali bonus, 3 per cent DA from 1-07-2023 and 2 per cent DA from 01-01-2024 for employees of the Dharmarth Trust. He also distributed cash assistance to the students of Raghunath Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya, Birpur.
In connection with birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation organised a blood donation camp and facilitation function at SMGS Hospital Jammu, in collaboration with Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K unit, headed by Manish Sahni and Dr Navneet Kour, Secty General ISBTI & YBA founder Chairperson “SUPPORT NGO”.
Dr Ritu Singh presided over this function, which began with offering of Ardaas by Bhai Jee , followed by paying of floral tribute to Maharaja Gulab Singh. Volunteers of Shiv Sena & NGO SUPPORT Jammu donated blood to patients suffering from Thalassemia & Onco Kids. Dr Dara Singh, Superintendent of SMGS Hospital; Dr Ashutosh, Principal GMC Jammu; Dr Meena Sidhu, HoD of Blood Transfusion & Medicine along with other Doctors, Nurses & Paramedical Staff graced the inaugural ceremony.
On this occasion, Dr Ritu Singh honored Dr Dara Singh, Dr Ashutosh , Dr Meena Sidhu , Dr G S Saini, Dr Sanjeev Digra, Dr Vijay Sawhney and other Doctors , Nurses & Staff Members.
Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) also paid tributes to Maharaja Gulab Singh at his Statue in SMGS Hospital Shalimar Jammu amid slogans praising the Maharaja. Surinder Singh Gilli, Ex President YRS, along with YRS members reached Mukesh Singh, Vikramjeet Singh, Balbir Singh, Avtar Singh, Sanjay Singh and others visited the site and paid their tributes.
