JAMMU, Jan 11: A two day seminar on ‘Dogri literature of 21st century’ got underway today at K.L Saigal Hall, here today. It was jointly organized by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Dogri Sanstha, Jammu.
In addition to the inaugural session, three paper reading session were held in which six papers covering various genres were presented by writers and scholars. Three paper reading sessions will be held tomorrow, in which six more paper will be presented.
The inaugural session of the seminar was presided over by Prof. N.D Sharma, who in his address spoke about the changing trends in dissemination of literature in light of the fast growing modes of media communication. He said that writer should make full use of computer and internet for making their writings to reach readers. He also talked about the importance of translation among various Indian languages.
Shantanu Gangopadhya, Asstt. Editor Sahitya Akademi, earlier welcomes the audience and made introductory remarks about the seminar.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, Convener, Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi delivered the key-note address in the session. He emphasized the need for writers to be sensitive to the socio-political and psychological impacts of the fast changing environments due to unprecedented growth of technology and media. He said on one hand in India old traditional ways are still being followed and on the other technology and consumerism, in contrast, is changing the ways and concepts of people.
Prof Veena Gupta, general secretary of Dogri Sanstha conducted the inaugural session and also presented the vote of thanks.
In paper reading sessions, those who presented their papers include, Susheel Begana, Surjit Hosh, Parkash Premi, Shiv Dev Singh Manhas, Mohan Singh and Nirmal Vinod.
