JAMMU, Oct 23: The vehicular traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was restored today after remaining suspended for over 24 hours due to road repair work at Dalwas area near Ramban where land is sinking for the last several months.
Official sources said that the traffic on Mughal Road and Kishtwar-Anantnag highway, which was closed after fresh snowfall in high altitude areas of Pir Ki Gali and Sinthan Top, was restored today.
A Traffic Police official said that the National Highway was reopened for traffic at 5 am today. The traffic on the highway was suspended yesterday to facilitate the road construction agency in carrying out the urgent repair work.
The official said the traffic was also restored on the Mughal Road connecting the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu with South Kashmir’s Shopian district and the Sinthan Top road linking Kishtwar in Jammu with South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials said that there was snowfall at Pir ki Gali and its adjoining areas of both Poonch and Shopian side on Sunday after which road was closed for traffic movement and vehicles were stopped at Behramgala, Poshana and Bafliaz.
The snow clad road in Pir Ki Gali axis was cleared and vehicular movement was allowed ensuring safety of the passengers. Massive traffic jams were also witnessed at several places enroute, the official said.
