Srinagar/Jammu, Oct 24: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh today said that Jammu and Kashmir is treading on the path of peace and urged the militants to surrender before the security forces and live a peaceful life.
Speaking to media persons in Kupwara, Singh said that J&K is in times of peace and happiness. He hoped that this new found peace would endure for the Union Territory.
“The atmosphere of fear has ended and people of all ages can move around freely. Today we have times of peace and happiness,” he said.
He said that peace is important for the region and stressed for peaceful coexistence.
The DGP said that J&K has seen a significant transformation over the last five years. “Militancy has almost -been wiped out from the region, and the few remaining active militants will also be neutralized soon,” he added. Click here to watch video
He said that North Kashmir is almost free of militancy. “There is no active militant but there are a few odd floating militants who keep moving from one place to another. They will also be eliminated,” he added.
Singh expressed a strong desire for youth who have joined militancy to choose a peaceful path. He said there is a notable difference as only 10 youth joined militancy this year as compared to last year’s 110.
“I wish if these 10 couldn’t have joined militancy it would have been joy for us. Out of these 10, six have been neutralized in different encounters, and the remaining four are expected to meet a similar fate soon,” he added.
The DGP urged the left-out militants to give up arms and surrender before security forces. “They should surrender before the security forces, and that will be good for them, so that they too will live their life peacefully,” he added.
Singh said militants also have families and such killings don’t bring any happiness to security forces.
“I also want to say that it is not as if we feel happy about the death of militants. They also belong to a family. We want that if anyone has left the path of peace, he should come back and drop his weapons to lead a normal life,” he added
Singh said that Kupwara district is being used as a narcotics route. He urged the people of the district to recognize the harm in this practice. “It is unfortunate people of the district should think about it, that it is wrong, and should close these ways themselves for living a peaceful life,” he added.
Meanwhile in Jammu Singh said that the militancy has been mostly eliminated in Jammu and Kashmir and everything is under control in UT now.
The DGP was talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Dussehra celebrations here this evening. He said the festival of Dussehra is celebrated as a mark of the victory of good over evil and in J&K “we have also been facing the evil forces for a long time but they have been eliminated by and by. He said the good has always emerged as triumphant.”
The DGP said “we have been facing the evil forces in J&K for over three decades and by and by they have been eliminated now. The situation is totally under control at present”
He said the police and security forces are taking care of everything and the situation is under control.
He also congratulated the organisers of Dussehra function and wished them good luck saying the festival is an inspiration for all of us on how to fight evil from our lives and society.
