‘Margdarshan resolution one point solution’

JAMMU, Oct 25: Dr. Agnishekhar, convenor of Panun Kashmir (PK), has vehemently criticized the subsidised land scheme decision of the Government for Kashmiri Pandit employees for housing purposes in the Valley.
In a statment issued here, today the PK leader termed it a deliberate act of denial and consolidation of the ongoing genocide against the Kashmiri Pandit community.
The LG’s administration, while touting the improved security situation in the Valley and the purported waning of terrorist activities, has put forward the proposal to allocate land at reduced rates to facilitate the resettlement of KPs. However, Dr. Agnishekhar pointed out that such measures, while seemingly well-intentioned, do not address the underlying structural issues that have perpetuated the genocide which led to displacement and marginalization of the community.
Dr. Agnishekhar, said the announcement of the subsidized land scheme represents a disconcerting effort to brush aside the historical context of the genocide that has plagued the KPs for decades. The proposal fails to account for the complex interplay of socio-political and cultural factors that led to the mass exodus of the community from their homeland. The consequences of such an approach, perpetuate the erasure of the community’s lived experiences, rendering their genocide and struggle in consequential in the broader narrative of the Kashmir issue which has always been projected differently when it always was and is the issue of Kashmiri Pandits the aboriginals of Valley.
Agnishekhar emphasizes that the continued absence of a comprehensive genocide law not only undermines the pursuit of justice for the community but also condones the perpetuation of systemic discrimination and violence against them. By disregarding the urgent need for legal protections and reparations, the authorities further perpetuate a culture of impunity that allows the culprits of past and ongoing atrocities to evade accountability, he added.
Dr. Agnishekhar said that the proposed subsidized land scheme does little to address the profound psychological trauma endured by the community, particularly in the context of the genocide, communal violence and displacement that they were subjected to.
The inadequacy of the proposal to offer substantive redressal, coupled with the failure to provide a conducive environment for the holistic rehabilitation of the community, perpetuates a cycle of marginalization and erasure, further exacerbating their existing vulnerabilities, he added.
Dr. Agnishekhar urged the authorities to adopt a more holistic and nuanced approach that prioritizes the community’s collective welfare and long-term rehabilitation as envisaged in Margdarshan resolution .
