MENDHAR, Oct 28: Road from Mendhar to Jammu remained closed for four hours as Taxi Union drivers staged a strong protest demonstration over bad condition of the road.
The protesting driver raised slogans against the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for abandoning the blacktopping work without any reason. They assembled in Dhargloon area of Mendhar, early this morning and blocked the road.

The protesting drivers alleged that the department was repairing and laying bitumen on the road from Bhimbar Gali to Mendhar Balnoi, the work was suddenly stopped with the result road up to eight kilometers remained incomplete.
President of the Taxi Union, Kafeel Khan and area Naib Sarpanch Raja Khan, along with other drivers, appealed the district administration that the Traffic Department should be ordered to complete this work soon.
“This road is named after Ashoka Chakra awardee ASI Martyr Babu Ram, who had sacrificed his life for the country and bad condition of this road is amounts to dishonoring the name of the martyr, which we will never tolerate,” they said.
As soon as the information about the protest was received, Naib Tehsildar Balakot reached at the spot and pacified the protesters assuring that their demand would be conveyed to the higher authorities.
