Security beefed up across Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 1: Four associates of The Resistance Front were arrested from Baramulla district today.
A Police official said that on Monday during naka checking at Naradhiri Dangerpora junction, joint teams of Baramulla Police along with 52 RR and 53 Bn CRPF apprehended two persons Ghulam Hassan Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir resident of Muran Tangwari Chandoosa and Mukhtar Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Afzal Khan resident of Pinjwara Laridora Chandoosa who upon seeing joint parties of security forces tried to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehended and upon their search 1 Chinese pistol, 1 pistol magazine, 12 live rounds and 2 hand grenades were recovered from their possession.
The official said that a case (FIR no. 68/2023 U/S 7/25 IA ACT, 13,18,23,39 UAPA) was registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation was started.
He said that during the course of investigation and upon their disclosure, two more persons Altaf Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Ahad Rather resident of Kawhar and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb son of Abdul Gaffar Naqeeb resident of Kunzar were summoned for questioning.
“During questioning both Altaf Ahmad Rather and Farooq Ahmad Naqeeb confessed that they possessed arms and ammunition. Upon disclosure two hand grenades were recovered from both the accused and subsequently they were arrested in the instant case,” he said.
He said that during the investigation it came to surface that all the four accused persons were working for Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ab Rashid Sheikh resident of Kunzer in the past who is presently lodged under PSA.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across Kashmir in the wake of a fresh spate of terrorist attacks in the Valley which resulted in the killing of a police personnel and a non-local labourer, officials said.
Security forces have intensified checking and frisking of vehicles and pedestrians in several parts of the city here as well as in other parts of the Valley, the officials said.
Nakas and mobile vehicle checkpoints (MVCP) have been established at all major intersections of the city, its entry/exit points, and important roads leading to district headquarters, they added.
Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary CRPF personnel have been deployed at sensitive places, especially around minority population areas, the officials said.
They said the security forces are also keeping a watch, including night domination, in the areas where non-locals reside.
While most of the non-local labourers have left the Valley because of the cold weather, few are still putting up in ghettos, they added.
Referring to the modus operandi of the attacks, the police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attacks are mafia-style where a new recruit is given a task to prove loyalty by hitting a soft target before joining the terror ranks.
