Srinagar e-buses start operating

The LG has declared that the Government will subsidise 50 per cent of the fares for passengers utilising the recently introduced electric buses in Srinagar. A fleet of 75 electric buses in Srinagar for the city’s populace has been dedicated, equipped with cutting-edge technology, and boasts an emissions-free operation. A delay of five months in the launch of these vehicles has transpired, yet it is imperative to acknowledge that substantial policy transformations of this magnitude inevitably encounter practical challenges, necessitating a commensurate period for their resolution. The administrative apparatus has diligently furnished the requisite infrastructure following Tata Motors’ specifications to initiate these services. Undoubtedly, this constitutes a momentous occasion for the denizens of Srinagar, with prospects for further expansion as the fruits of this pioneering endeavour begin to materialise. The Smart City initiative has played a pivotal role in the metamorphosis of Srinagar. Innovative measures aimed at enhancing the tourism appeal of Dal and Wullar, hitherto unprecedented, have been executed. These encompass the introduction of an open floating theatre, laser musical fountains, and a plethora of similar initiatives.
Lal Chowk and Polo View Market have also undergone a total transformation. These endeavours collectively aim to elevate the city to a contemporary standard akin to world-class tourist destinations. The implementation of an ultra-modern, environmentally friendly transportation system constitutes a pivotal component of this transformation. The exponential growth of the population and the corresponding surge in the number of vehicles has exceeded the capacity for road expansion to accommodate the ever-escalating traffic. The only viable recourse is the adoption of intelligent transportation methods that can save both time and the environment. This will undoubtedly invigorate the mass transportation system, offering a compelling alternative for commuters. The administration deserves the highest commendations, and it is anticipated that numerous additional initiatives will be forthcoming as part of the Smart City mission.
