UDHAMPUR, Nov 4: Two-day seminar on “Community Policing” concluded today at the S K Police Academy in Udhampur.
Nineteen officers, with the rank of Sub-Inspector and Inspector from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, participated in the training program.
The concept of community policing has its roots in the origins of the police force but has gained popularity in recent decades. In many democratic societies, prioritizing public relations has emerged as a promising alternative to the traditional model of law enforcement.
During the valedictory function held at the Academy, SSP Rajinder Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director (Indoor) at SKPA, served as the chief guest. In his valedictory address, Gupta emphasized that the lack of both community policing and effective public relations can render the police force ineffective and distant from the public. He highlighted that the new concept of community policing views crime control and law and order management as truly participative functions, with the active involvement of the community. The community collaborates with the police to identify and resolve issues that lead to crime and disorder. Gupta advised the participants to consider community policing an integral part of police functioning.
Eminent speakers, including Dr Mahesh Koul, Assistant Professor in the Division of Agricultural Economics and ABM at SKUAST, as well as faculty members of the Academy, delivered lectures to the participants and shared their valuable experiences.
The course was coordinated by Rakesh Mani, Inspector, with assistance from Sgct Tejinder Chopra.
