JAMMU, Nov 6: Three passengers were killed while 16 others injured when an over loaded Tempo-Traveler rolled down into a gorge near Palma, on Rajouri-Budhal road today.
Official sources said that mishap took place at around 11 am today when the ill-fated Tempo-traveler (mini-bus), bearing registration number JK02AB-5535 was on way to Rajouri from Budhal. The eye-witnesses said that the vehicle was overspeeding and the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve at Buddi Morh near Palma and the vehicle went out of control and rolled down into nearly 300 ft deep gorge.

Immediately after the mishap, a rescue operation was launched by police and locals of the area and 19 people were evacuated from the spot to the Government Medical College (GMC), Associated Hospital Rajouri, where three of them were declared as dead.
The officials identified the deceased as Abdul Rashid (34), son of Chandia, a resident of Hubbi; Mohd Shabir (40), son of Nazir Hussain, resident of Budhal and Mohd Azam (32), son of Ghulam Din from Daraj village in Budhal tehsil.
The condition of five of the injured, including a four-year-old girl, was stated to be critical, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condoled the loss of lives in the tragic road accident in Rajouri today.
“I am deeply shocked to learn of the unfortunate road accident in Rajouri today, in which precious lives have been lost and many others injured. I send my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and wish those injured a speedy recovery. I have directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected persons,” the Lt Governor said.
Medical Superintendent, GMC Rajouri, Mehmood Bajar said 16 of the injured were admitted to the hospital and efforts are on to save the lives of the critically injured patients.
The Police said that a case has been registered under FIR number 512/23 under sections 279/337/304-A IPC and investigations taken up. They said driver of the Tempo had recently returned from Kuwait. He was working there for the last several years. His legs have also fractured.
The injured have been identified as Jagdev Singh, son of Lal Chand from Badhal village Budhal and his wife Kirna Devi and her 2 year old son Jajant; Naseem Akhter (30), wife of Abdul Rashid from Hubbi; Saika Kouser (4), daughter of Abdul Rashid from Hubbi; Showket Ali (35), son of Nazir Hussain from Kandi, Mohd Kafeel (16) ,son of Ghulam Rasool from Dhaar Sakri; Imtiaz Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohd from Mohra Daraj; Mahsooma Begum (65), Abdul Aziz, from Jaglaano: Mohd Altaf (34), son of Abdul Aziz from Jaglaano; Mohd Younis (55), son of Ali Mohd from Dhar Sakri; Vinod Kumar (29), son of Parshotam Kumar from Khwaas; Hamida Begum (55), wife of Abdul Aziz from Bakori; Abdul Aziz (62), Hassan Mohd from Bakori; Imtiaz Ahmed (24), son of Yaseen from Hubbi and Wajid Ali, son of Abdul Rashid from Hubbi.
Seven seriously injured were later referred to GMC Jammu. They are Jagdav Singh, Kirna Devi, Jajant Singh, Naseem Akhter, Abdul Shahid, Saika Kousar and Imtiaz Ahmed.
