JAMMU, Nov 15: A demonstration was held here today by Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation as per the agitation program given by All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and in support of the agitating Canara Bank Employees Union.
The protesting employees are demanding adequate recruitment in clerical and subordinate cadre and resenting outsourcing of permanent and perennial jobs besides unjustified reduction of Clerks at branches of Canara Bank.
State Secretary Canara Bank Employees Union (J&K), Com Yogesh Kumar warned that if the demands of employees are not fulfilled and adequate recruitment is not started by the bank, call for further agitation will be given by Central Office of Canara Bank Employees Union at all India level.
General Secretary of the Federation, Com Arun Kumar Gupta demanded strengthening of Public Sector Banks, by adequate human resources. He said that in recent years, the number of customers of the banks has increased manifold and the total volume of business has gone up enormously while the consequent workload on the employees has increased as there is no adequate recruitment in the Banks in clerical and sub staff cadre.
“A large number of vacancies arising out of retirements, promotions, deaths, etc are not being filled up. More and more schemes of the Government are being implemented through the bank accounts. All this add to the workload on the employees in the Branches. This acute shortage of staff in the Branches is adversely affecting the satisfactory customer services,” he explained and alleged that there was a deliberate attempt on the part of the Government and banks to reduce the number of workers who are governed by the Industrial Disputes Act.
President of JPBEF, Com Tara Singh informed the members about AIBEA call for strike from 4th December and its culmination with 2- day all India strikes on 19th and 20th January 2024. The agitational program includes demonstrations, online campaigns, signature campaigns etc, he added.
Today’s demonstration was attended by number of employees from Canara Bank and other nationalized banks. They included Yogesh Kumar, Rahul Gupta, Ravi Kumar, Jaskaran Singh, Kewal Kumar, Sumit Khajuria, Kanab Padyar, Harminder Singh, Jatinder Kumar, Kewal Kumar, Sahil, Sachin Hans, Avtar Singh, Lucky Jamwal, Karan Dogra, Davinder Kumar, Sanjeev Sucha, Anantprasad Barnwal, Naresh Kumar and others.
