JAMMU, Nov 16: As a gesture of goodwill and to promote communal harmony, the Muslim Federation Jammu (MFJ) organized a Diwali Milan at Jammu Club here, today.
The event was attended by a large number of prominent citizens and representatives of various social, religious and trade organizations of Jammu.
Gulchain Singh Charak – former Minister and president, Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) while speaking on the occasion appreciated the initiative taken by Abdul Majid – president Muslim Federation and his team. He emphasised the need to preserve the very basic ethos of Jammu on which it was founded by Raja Jambu Lochan.
Parshotam Dadheechi- president, Sanatan Dharma Sabha (SDS) Jammu said that in Indian culture we all believe in Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and all communities should live and prosper as one big family.
Yashpal Gupta- former president, Traders Federation in his speech urged upon the Muslim Federation to continue with the same zeal in organising similar events in near future also.
Purnima Sharma former Deputy Mayor, Jammu while congratulating the organisers for organising Diwali Milan said that this will go a long way in strengthening the brotherhood between all the communities of Jammu.
Arvinder Singh Aman highlighted the importance of communal harmony and interfaith understanding which he said is essential for maintaining peace and tranquilly in the country.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Ashok Khajuria former president J&K, BJP, Prof. Ashok Aima former VC, Central University, Jammu, General (retd) Rakesh Sharma, Brig. (retd) Langeh, Rajesh Gupta (VHP), G.A Khawaja (retd. DC), Shah Mohammad (Chairman Gujjar Desh Trust.), Javid Rahi, Kiran Wattal, Rahul Sahai, Dr. Gautam Goel, Samar Dev Singh, Col. (retd) Karan Singh, Dr. Sandeep Singh (Controller Paramedical, J&K), Munish Gupta (general-secretary, Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Rajeev Gupta (Director Health Services Jammu), Dr. Yudhveer, Rajesh Gupta, Jagdeep Singh, Dr Vidhya Sagar Sharma, Chhankar Singh, Amanat Ali Shah and others.
The proceedings were conducted by H.A Sadiqui, general secretary, Muslim Federation Jammu while vote of thanks was presented by Sheikh Shakeel and he on behalf of Muslim Federation Jammu assured that such events will now be a regular feature of the Federation.
The gathering also observed one minute silence to pay tribute to those killed in a tragic road accident at Assar, Doda.
