Pensioners, senior citizens hold conference, highlight issues

SRINAGAR, Nov 16: State Pensioners & Senior Citizens Welfare Federation held one day conference at Ganderbal today in which pressing demands of pensioners and working class were threadbare discussed.
The conference was chaired by Haji Noor Mohammed Sheikh, district president, Ganderbal.
Discussing the issues of working class, pensioners and senior citizens it demanded immediate release of four percent DA and 18 months DA which is lying with Government, grant of Rs 1000 as Medical Allowance on pattern of Central Government employees and pensioners, regularisation of daily wagers and other temporary employees, Old pension scheme be implemented, G P Fund and other arrears be released, the unemployed by provided avenues of employment and rights of senior citizens be restored.
In his inaugural address Mir Ghulam Rasool Batvini a veteran trade union leader said the Federation has served lakhs of employees and pensioners for decades together and he while recalling the services of great trade union leaders including ex president of Low Paid Employees Federation, late Abdul Majid Khan and veteran trade Union leader, Sampat Prakash paid tributes to them who he said fought for the cause of working class till their last breath.
He besides, pensioners highlighted the issues faced by senior citizens in detail. The conference among others was also addressed Sheikh Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shilwati. It was also attended by Federation representatives from other districts of Kashmir. D N Sadhu joined the conference through virtual mode from Jammu and assured full support in future struggle. Abdul Ahad Rather, Noor Mohammed Sheikh, Abdul Majid Dar, Muzaffar Ahmed Madni and others addressed the conference.
