JU’s Science Club ‘Utsaah’ organizes public lecture series on Science & Innovation

JAMMU, Nov 17: The Science Club of University of Jammu ‘Utsaah’ organized a public lecture series on ‘Science & Innovation for Sustainable Solutions’.
Today’s lecture series intertwines the knowledge from history, power of data, the wonders of plants for health and the transformative potential of coding skills in entrepreneurial endeavours.
The highlight of the program was talk by Padmashree Prof Dinesh Singh (Vice Chairperson of HEI, J&K and former VC Delhi University) on “The World of Inventions & Innovations: Some Interesting Examples”. Prof Dinesh discussed and interacted with the students from various discipline about the inventions centuries ago like the accidental discovery of Penicillin. He inspired students to be curious, use their own hands and intellect.
The event was presided by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai. The guest speaker Dr Sangram K Lenka, Associate Professor from Gujarat Biotechnology University delivered a lecture on “Sustainable Health Promoting Nutraceuticals from Plants”. He shared his practical research-based experience about various health promoting nutraceuticals produced using modern biotecnological tools such as synthetic biology and genome editing etc.
The young entrepreneur and CEO of Ezytech Products, Sahej Pal Singh (12th class student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Sainik Colony, Jammu) shared his journey and how learning coding helped him to make software (Ezy Print Packing) that allows users for packing labels with no hazard of design or any other complication and sticker printing are very cost effective by rates.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof Satnam Kour (chairperson, Utsaah). Among the eminent guests were Prof SK Pandey (Chemistry), Prof KS Charak (Mathematics), Prof Alka Sharma (Director, SIIEDC), Prof Anil Gupta (Director, SHTM), Dr Sadaf Shah (English), Dr Jatinder Manhas (Computer Science), Dr Garima Gupta (Media), Prof Parmil Kumar (Head, Statistics), Prof Ramesh (Statistics), Dr Rakesh Sharma (HoD, Fine Arts, IIMFA), Dr Pallavi Sahdeva (Lifelong Learning), Dr Sunil (Statistics), Dr Sandeep Arya (Physics) and Dr Inder Jeet Singh (Geography).
