RAMBAN, Nov 21: A 36-year-old woman apparently committed suicide by jumping into Chenab River in Karol area here today, officials said.
Mehzooba Begum (36) wife of Mushtaq Ahmed Wani of Kundi, Karol, Tehsil and District Ramban, jumped into the river near Jaswal Bridge area of Karol to end her life, they said.
Some witnesses informed the police after which a rescue operation was launched with the help of SDRF and locals, officials said.
SHO Ramban, Inspector Nayeem Ahmed Matoo said, “we have received information that one Mehzooba Begum left her house for some work and didn’t return.”
“Accordingly, we have registered a missing report at Police Station Ramban and started further investigation,” he said.
The SHO however said that they have also received information about a woman jumping into River Chenab to end her life “but we’re not sure whether this woman was Mehzooba.”
