Minor girl killed, mother injured in road accident at Kullian; family protest

JAMMU, Nov 21: A three-year-old girl child died while her mother sustained injuries in a road accident at Kullian area here today, officials said.

Around 12:45 PM, while Priti Devi (34) wife of Tarun Kumar of Gandu Colony, Gummat, Jammu, was de-boarding a minibus (JK02E-2035) near Kullian area of RS Pura, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle ran over the minor child, and injured the former, they said.
While the girl child died on-the-spot her mother was admitted to a local hospital in RS Pura for treatment, said officials.
After medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased girl child was handed over to her family members.
Following the accident, the family members of the deceased child, accompanied by locals, blocked the Jammu-RS Pura road, demanding action against the driver, who is absconding after the accident.
To pacify the protesters, SDPO RS Pura, Nikhil Gogna and SHO Miran Sahib, Inspector Bopinder Singh reached at the spot and assured that the protestors that the absconding driver would be arrested soon and brought to the book. Following his assurance, the protest was called off.
A case FIR number 163/2023 Under Sections 279 and 304(a) of the IPC has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib and manhunt launched to arrest the absconding driver.
