Business establishments, residences of liquor traders covered

JAMMU, Nov 22: The Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department Jammu today carried out search and seizure operation in around two dozen premises of liquor traders including those situated in National Capital and Jaipur.

Official sources told EXCELSIOR that based on the credible inputs about evasion of tax, the Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department Jammu started simultaneous search and seizure operation at around 6.30 am.
A number of teams were constituted for the operation which was carried out with the assistance of police force so as to avoid chances of any sort of disruption from the traders identified for the action by the department. The entire operation was supervised by Joint Director level officer of the Investigation Wing of the department.
The search and seizure operation was carried out in the premises of Dewan Modern Breweries at Talab Tillo, Jewel Chowk, Jaipur and Delhi on the basis of strong information about the evasion of Income Tax, sourced said.
Similarly, search and seizure operation was conducted in Trishal Traders, Mahadev Traders and Trikuta Wine Traders, which have retail liquor vends in different parts of Jammu, sources further said while disclosing that during the operation a total of 24 premises were covered in Jammu, Jaipur and Delhi.
“The operation, which started early in the morning, will continue for next two-three days as during the initial stage of the action the Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department laid hands on certain vital information regarding concealment of income to avoid payment of Income Tax”, sources further said, adding “the exact quantum of tax evasion will be worked out by the department after completion of search and seizure operation and detailed scrutiny of the impounded documents”.
Sources said that during the search operation the department covers business as well as residential premises of the owners, their partners and directors of the company so as to tighten noose around the targeted company while as during survey action only business establishments are covered.
“The Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department was closely monitoring the Income Tax returns filed by these traders and tax paid by them during the past quite long time and ultimately on the basis of credible information the search and seizure operation was planned”, sources further said.
