AJKPC demands extension in existing Panchayats, BDCs

BANDIPORE, Nov 23: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC), a registered body of elected Panchayat members of J&K demanded extension of existing Panchayats and Block Development Councils term till announcement of schedule of Panchayat elections in J & K.
The demand was raised by elected panchayat Members during one day convention held here today.
The program was organised by Mohd Shafi Khan, a sarpanch and known social activist of the area.
AJKPC president Anil Sharma presided over the convention.
While addressing the Participants, Sharma asked the PRI members to remain united to strengthen the grass root level democracy in J & K.
He also appealed the Government to either conduct the Panchayat Elections in Feb-2024 or extend the term of Existing Panchayats and Block Development Councils.
“The AJKPC won’t accept any move and act of the Govt that would dilute the Autonomy of the Panchayat and Gram Sabha,” said Sharma.
He said that for over a decade, AJKPC has remained a unified organization to bind together PRI members from Kashmir and Jammu region and shall continue to do so.
He assured the participants that AJKPC would not bow before any pressure of the Government and its Baabus and will never compromise the interests of the elected PRI members.
Among others who addressed the convention included Mohd Shafi Khan, Mohd Afzal Ganiee, Mohammad Mazffar Wani, Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Bashir Ahmad Lone, Fayaz Ahmad Wani, Ab Ahad Zarger, Mohd Ashraf Hundoo, GH Mohiudin, Shamsudin, Ab Rasheed Phatan, Mohd Nadeem, Abhameed Phaloo, Ali Mohd Rather and Gulzar Ahmad Haji.
