UDHAMPUR, Nov 23: Three-day UT level training programme on `Social Defence’, including Transgender persons, Beggary and Drug Abuse in social defence issues, concluded at SK Police Academy, here today.
The training programme was organized in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI).
35 officers of J&K Police participated in this training programme. The course was designed with the aim to facilitate improvement in quality and standards of services for vulnerable group in need of special and legal care. It also aimed to build knowledge on social issues, provisions of social services and to provide exposure to field situations and foster innovation in the field of social defence.
During the course the deliberation on the topics like concept Social defence issues, problems and challenges faced by Transgender persons, Transgender Persons Act 2019 and its impact on trans community, old age care, salient features of Maintenance and Welfare of Parent and Senior Citizens Act 2014, problems of destitute (beggary) and related State Legislation, drug abuse and prevention, nature and problems, functions of RRTCs and drug treatment centre was held by eminent guest faculties from different academics including Dr Kavita Suri, Dr Hema Gandotra, Dr Vinay Kumar, Dr Nancy Mengi and Dr Shahnaz Butt.
During the valediction function in the Academy, SSP Rajinder Kumar Gupta, Dy Director (Indoor) was the chief guest. In his valediction address, he emphasized the participants that as law enforcement officers, they have to address the reported cases of social defence issues. “Additionally, you must identify vulnerable areas from which such social defence crimes can evolves,” he added and stressed the participants’ role in promoting justice, citizen well-being and efforts for lasting societal safety aiming to build a safer and more inclusive society for all.
The course was coordinated by Inspector Vishal Manhas, who was assisted by ASI Rajinder Singh of SKPA.
