Srinagar, Nov 24: At least 40 couples from various districts of Kashmir were today united in the bond of marriage during a mass marriage ceremony held here.
The ceremony took place at Amar Singh Club and was organized by J&K Jaffaria Council, Budgam, witnessing the presence of friends and families of the couples.
The arrangements were handled by the Council spearheading the mass marriage ceremony, and the family members of the couples expressed satisfaction while also praising the key role of the managers.
“There were 40 couples in today’s ceremony. The brides are from the underprivileged section of society whose families were unable to bear the expenses of marriage. The function was held smoothly, and we hope these girls will now lead a respectable and happy life,” said Haji Musadiq Hussain, Chairman of Jaffaria Council.
He mentioned that the Council, along with other NGOs, has been working tirelessly to end the menace of dowry, ensuring that poor people can marry off their children.
Since 2015, the Council has arranged 535 marriages of marginalized women in Kashmir, and they have been living a happy life without complaints.
Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, hailing from the Khan Sahib area of the Budgam district, whose daughter was also united in the knot of marriage, expressed gratitude to the Council for taking this step and urged financially sound people to contribute.
“It is because of them that our children are getting married without any hassles; these initiatives are a hope for the downtrodden because in the absence of these initiatives, the children end up resorting to steps that are wrong,” he said.
