UDHAMPUR, Nov 24: Sher-e Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur, today hosted an orientation and awareness program on the topic, “Panoramic view of Taxation of India, need and importance of taxation along with the bogus claims of refunds.”
Chaired by Rahul Padha, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Range Srinagar, and Rajinder Gupta, Deputy Director (Indoor) at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, the event emphasized the crucial role of taxation and debunking spurious refund claims.
A statement said that 65 DySPs, and 500 other officers and officials from diverse branches of the police attended the program.
The program kicked off with a warm welcome from SKPA administration to the Income Tax Department officers, underscoring the necessity of such sessions for DySP trainees, faculty members, and police officers in SKPA.
Ritesh Gupta, CA delivered a comprehensive overview of the Income Tax Department’s structure, shedding light on the pivotal role of Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) in tax administration related to salaried individuals. An interactive session followed, addressing queries from participants, facilitated by the speaker and esteemed income tax dignitaries.
Kuldeep Sharma, Senior Income Tax Advocate, took the stage for an in-depth presentation on the intricacies of claiming refunds and filing accurate Income Tax Returns (ITRs).
Rahul Padha led the next session, enlightening the audience about the advantages of truthful income reporting, stressing the significance of adhering to basic income tax laws in their roles as DDOs and District Police Heads.
A fruitful interaction ensued on issues related to eligible deductions under Chapter VIA, emphasizing the importance of accurate ITR filing with genuine income details.
The outreach program honed in on the department’s operations and the menace of fraudulent refund claims by employees across various sectors, especially those exploiting bogus deductions under Chapter VIA of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Attendees were apprised of the legal ramifications tied to false deduction claims.
