Srinagar, Jan 21: Police arrested a cop who allegedly thrashed the staff of a Primary Health Center including a doctor in Ganderbal district last night.
The incident took place last night when Head Constable, Muhammad Shafi Parray, alias Shafi Khenze, son of Ghulam Muhammad Parray, and his brother Sajad Ahmad Parray, both residents of Wussan, arrived at Primary Health Center, Wussan, with a woman, seeking consultation for her.
Sources said that the trouble started when Yawar Ahmed, the doctor, enquired about the whereabouts of the woman patient since her two attendants were allegedly drunk.
The duo, according to staff, thrashed the doctor and other staff members who tried to rescue him.
Later, the staff went on a strike to protest manhandling of the doctor and other members by the policeman and his associate. They blocked the Srinagar-Leh road for several hours and demanded action against the accused.
