JAMMU, Jan 21: Inmates of Blind Home, under Social Welfare Department, held protest dharna at Roop Nagar complex of the Home here today.
The blind children residing in the Govt’s Blind Home started protest against the local authorities demanding transfer of some staff members including the superintendent. They alleged that inmates were getting substandard food. There was no proper cleanliness in the Home. Only during Braille day every year, attention is given to the Home as the Minister and other VIPs visit there.
They also alleged that the vehicle donated for the blind children by the Chairman Legislative Council is mostly used by the staff and the children are deprived of its services. They are made to go for studies/ school/ college at their own in public transport. The inmates are made to face the wrath of the superintendent and staff when they raise their voice, they alleged.
Later, District Social Welfare Officer Jammu Mr Bali and Director Social Welfare M H Bhatti reached the Home and interacted with the protesting inmates. The director assured action if the allegations were found correct.
Meanwhile, Mr Bhatti when contacted said that he has constituted a three member committee of senior officers of the department to probe the allegations. If the allegations were found correct, he would take action. But he maintains that allegations seemed to be manipulation of a few insiders, who were instigating other children as well, demanding transfer of Superintendent.
