World AIDS Day observed across J&K

JAMMU, Dec 1: Different organizations here today organized various awareness programmes on World AIDS Day.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today remarked that World AIDS Day is a global platform to unite in solidarity and reflect on the progress made in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic. He was addressing an event organized by J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) in the backdrop of World AIDS Day at Convention Centre in Jammu. Principal GMC Jammu, MD NHM, Director Health Services Jammu/Kashmir, Director AYUSH, Additional Director, JKACS, Director Family Welfare and Immunisation J&K and others were also present on the occasion. The Advisor further said that present LG led Administration is committed to establish state of art medical ecosystem in the UT so that no person of J&K need to go outside for any kind of medical care.
Earlier, Advisor Bhatnagar flagged of E-auto rally for creating awareness about AIDS and also released balloons in air to mark the occasion.
World AIDS Day 2023 was observed at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu wherein Department of Microbiology in collaboration with Department of Transfusion Medicine, GMC Jammu and JKACS organized a Walkathon from GMC Jammu to SMGS Hospital Jammu to raise awareness related to various aspects of HIV AIDS. Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu was chief guest and Dr. Manu Bhatnagar, Additional Director JKACS was guest of honour. Dr. Ashutosh Gupta highlighted various steps being taken to prevent, diagnose and treat patients suffering from HIV-AIDS. A voluntary blood donation camp was also organized at Blood Centre, SMGS Hospital Jammu in which donors from Guru Nanak Langar Mission (NGO) donated blood for Thalassemia patients. ?
World AIDS Day was observed at Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) A.S Bhatia, Principal GMC Rajouri and under the supervision of Dr. Mehmood Hussain Bajar, Medical Superintendent Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri. On this occasion an event was organized at Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri in which various competitions like debate, poster making and placard making were held.
On World AIDS Day, Department of Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu organized an awareness lecture. Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor of the University was chief guest while Dr. Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar was guest of honour and Dr. Rajesh Behl, Professor Community Medicine was resource person. Dr. Behl shed light on the significance of World AIDS Day and emphasized strategies to promote AIDS prevention and support.
Department of Zoology, Cluster University of Jammu, organized a programme with theme ‘Let Community Lead’. Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor in his message said that World AIDS Day is dedicated to solidarity with people living with AIDS and sensitizing the community as there is recurring need for awareness campaigns against the spread of AIDS and other communicable diseases. Dr. Satinder Kaur, Dean Research Studies and Coordinator, Department of Zoology stressed upon urgent measures to address the problems associated with pandemic with particular concern for the youth who account for a significant portion of HIV related prevention, care and treatment services.
Udhampur Campus, Garnai Lotta, University of Jammu organized an awareness rally to mark World AIDS Day. In his virtual address to the gathering Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector Udhampur campus said that World AIDS Day provides an opportunity for schools to contribute to the global effort in combating HIV/AIDS.
The NSS unit of K.C College of Education observed World AIDS Day and organized a rally along with door-to-door campaign to make people aware of this menace. Principal of the College, Dr. Sanjay Tickoo appreciated the participants for their efforts and the programme was convened by Priya Gupta, PO, NSS.
The Science Club of Government College for Women, Parade Ground Jammu in collaboration with J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, Jammu organized slogan writing competition and essay writing competition on World AIDS Day. The event was graced by Principal of the College, Dr. S.P Saraswat and Convener, Science Club, Prof. Anjali Abrol.
The NSS and NCC units of Government Degree College (GDC) R.S Pura in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Service Committee, R.S Pura organized an online extension lecture themed ‘Know AIDS: No AIDS’ to commemorate World AIDS Day under the guidance of Dr. Rajni Bhagat, Principal of the College. Advocate Rita Sarangal was guest speaker and she presented a detailed account of HIV infection with special reference to J&K.
NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club, DDC and UBA PI, DDC observed World AIDS Day by organizing an inter-college symposium on ‘AIDS: Stigma and Mental Health’. The chief guest was Dr. Bela Thakur, Principal Dogra Degree College.
A community outreach programme was organized by Dogra College of Education in village Bhatyari under the banner of NSS unit of the College to mark World AIDS Day. The chief guest on the occasion was Archana Jamwal, Sarpanch, village Bhatyari. Dr. Pallavi, CHO, Bhatyari Hospital said: “Let us recommit our-self to build a society free from HIV AIDS.”
On World AIDS Day various schools and colleges in Udhampur organized awareness programmes to make younger generation aware about the causes, symptoms, tests and treatments for HIV infection. The campus of GDC boys along with Department of Zoology organized poster making contest and pinned red ribbons on students and staff.
GDC Boys Udhampur observed World AIDS Day to spread awareness regarding AIDS. Principal Prof. (Dr). Romesh Gupta highlighted the fact that the world is facing new diseases each day.
On World AIDS Day, GDC Kastigarh organized an awareness programme under the guidance of Prof. Koshal Kumar Mangotra, Principal of the College. The students and staff participated actively in the awareness programme wherein Prof. Sat Pal spoke on HIV/AIDS.
ANMT School Poonch observed World AIDS Day wherein CMO Poonch, Dr. Anis Altaf Nabi, Deputy CMO, Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed Khan and DIO Poonch, Dr. Zohra Perveen provided awareness to the gathering. Rangoli making competition, poster making competition, debates and quiz competition were also organized.
Aryans Institute of Nursing, Rajpura, near Chandigarh organized a seminar on World AIDS Day on this years’ theme ‘Let Communities Lead’. While interacting with the students, Nidhi Chopra, Principal, Aryans Institute of Nursing said that Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is one of the deadliest pandemics in history. She administered oath to the students for their participation in raising awareness about AIDS in society.
Red Ribbon Club of Government College of Education, Canal Road, Jammu organized an awareness rally under the patronage of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) S.P Saraswat and under the guidance of Prof. Satish Kumar on World AIDS Day to create the awareness among the students in particular and public in general.
The Red Ribbon Club of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu in collaboration with Food Science and Home Science Department and under the supervision of Dr. Shalini Sharma organized an awareness rally to commemorate World AIDS Day. A total of 64 students and 8 faculty members participated in the rally. The students participated by illuminating candles, symbolizing their engagement and support for the cause. Principal of the College, Prof. Minu Mahajan shared her insights and experiences, providing valuable perspectives on the efforts to combat the problem.
Red Ribbon Club of the Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu organized poster making competition on the theme ‘Let Communities Lead’ to observe World AIDS Day. The event was organized under the patronage of Dr. Surinder Kumar, Principal of the College who exhorted that youth has to play a very important role as they have to act as disseminators of information in their surroundings about the evil effects of the deadly disease AIDS.
Red Ribbon Club of Pt. PPND Government Degree College, Samba in collaboration with J&K Aids Control Society, Department of Health and Medical Education organized Rangoli and painting competition on World AIDS Day. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri who narrated the significance of observing World AIDS Day in spreading awareness about the deadly disease and emphasized on the essential role of communities in HIV response and drug abuse as well.
On World AIDS Day, Red Ribbon Club of GDC Ramkote organized poster making competition. The event was organized under the stewardship of Principal, Prof. Ramneek Kour who highlighting the vital role that community organizations play in responding to the AIDS epidemic globally.
Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Govt. Degree College Darhal organized an extension lecture and poster making competitions to observe World AIDS Day. Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, Principal of the College was chief guest whereas Dr. Mohd Shakeel was resource person. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shah underlined the need of greater awareness to prevent AIDS.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Batote in collaboration with CHC Batote organized an awareness programme on World AIDS Day. The keynote speaker on the occasion was Dr. Daisy from Govt. Critical Care Hospital Batote and she very meticulously illustrated the causes and prevention of AIDS.
Govt. Degree College Ramnagar under the aegis of Red Ribbon Club organized a symposium competition on World AIDS Day under the patronage of Principal, Dr. Bhavnaish Chand Anthal. The Principal briefed the gathering on significant advances in medicine and research to combat the HIV epidemic.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Neeli Nallah Udhampur organized a poster making and slogan writing competition on World AIDS Day. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Hans Raj, Principal of the College talked about hazardous effects of AIDS and preventive measures.
Government Degree College Vijaypur under the supervision of Principal, Prof. Dr. Vandana Gupta organized Candle Light Vigil to observe World AIDS Day. Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of the College organized series of events including poster making, human chain formation etc. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta said that this annual event serves as reminder of the global struggle to end HIV-related stigma.
Red Ribbon Club of Govt Degree College Poonch in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society observed World AIDS Day under the supervision of Principal, Dr. Jasbir Singh. Dr. Tabassum Naz, Convener Red Ribbon Club while addressing the students said that even among the educated masses, there is ignorance about HIV today.

Department of General Medicine at SKIMS observed World AIDS Day. Director SKIMS, Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul highlighted the debunking of myths through awareness campaigns and emphasized the need for more programmes focusing on disease prevention and discouraging high-risk behaviour.
Department of Community Medicine at Government Medical College, Srinagar observed World AIDS Day. The program was inaugurated by chief guest, Prof. (Dr.) Masood Tanvir, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College, Srinagar, who emphasized the growing burden of HIV infection and its physical, social and financial implications.
