Srinagar, Dec 4: A couple from Srinagar has come up with a unique eatery where they are making different dishes, including those that are rarely available in Kashmir.
The operations of the eatery are headed by Batool Aijaz Safawi, who has a Masters degree in Economics, while she is actively supported and assisted by her husband, Aijaz Ahmad.
While the eatery is named ‘Jazzba,’ it has an effective online presence and is present at the majority of festivals organized in and around the city, apart from providing food items to various events held from time to time.
“We do not have a permanent address yet; we operate online where we receive orders, and the same are delivered to the customers. Apart from that, we have been installing stalls on various occasions, which has helped us further the business,” Batool said.
The eatery has set an example of partnership and creativity, as Batool’s husband can be seen standing with her and ensuring that she delivers.
“I started it from home, and when I did, I used my contacts who, in turn, appreciated what I was doing, prompting me to expand it; in all this, I have had my husband with me,” she said.
With the installation of stalls at various occasions, Batool said her interaction with people increased, and with that, she saw their eatery growing.
“All the stalls we have installed so far have remained successful; we have a presence online on Instagram, where we have made our menu available,” she said.
The menu, which keeps changing, includes chapli kabab, haleem, shami kabab, and several other items that, Batool said, are relished and enjoyed by the people.
Regarding her husband’s support, she said that he must have seen something good in her that made him trust her.
“It is a must, plus women have to make it a point that they can achieve anything, and with that comes the support of your loved ones-I can say that there can be a man behind every successful woman.”
When asked about her passion for food, she said it provides her relief from daily life, noting that she has been facing both negative and positive criticism from people.
Aijaz Ahmad, told ‘Excelsior’, that he wants their partnership regarding the eatery and otherwise in life to act as an inspiration for the people. “There has been a lot of criticism, but we have taken it in a positive way; I can say that she is doing well and there are others who can take a cue from what we are doing.”
