Demand raised in LS

JAMMU, Dec 4: Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Jammu today raised demanded to construction of flood embankments at river Chenab in Akhnoor and Khour Sector.
He raised this demand in Lok Sabha today and said that Chenab is a mighty river flowing through Akhnoor and Khour Assembly constituencies and many villages are situated on its bank.
He said that during the flash floods in rainy season and after melting of snow the level of water in river Chenab rises creating havoc and posing a grave threat to Akhnoor, Gurgi Dhakki, Makyala, Chajwan, Devipur, Sangrampur, Chak Sikander, Gair, Bakore and many adjoining villages. A large portion of irrigated land has already been washed away and now the situation has arisen that flood water is posing a grave threat to residential houses and they are also on a red mark and likely to get washed when water level again rises in the river.
He said that the rise in water level in river Chenab is posing a grave threat to the life and property and Government has to take necessary measures at the earnest to save lives and property of the people.
Jugal Kishore Sharma also informed the house that a DPR amounting to Rs 55 crore has been prepared to construct the flood embankments and sent to the Ministry for further approval.
Member of Parliament urged Ministry of Jal Shakti to release the funds at the earliest so that these flood embankments can be constructed on the bank of river Chenab and the life and property of the many villages can be saved.
