Depriving democratic rights amounts to punishing people: Wani

SRINAGAR, Dec 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Vikar Rasool Wani today exhorted upon the party cadre to launch a massive public outreach programme in their respective districts and highlight public issues for their resolution.
Wani also reviewed the organizational affairs and activities in all the districts of Kashmir province, urging the party cadre to work harder to further strengthen the party at grass-roots and remain steadfast to serve people.
JKPCC chief addressing a meeting of party office bearers and District Congress Committee presidents at Srinagar Party office, in which discussions were held on a wide range of issues confronting the public. The meeting also discussed the current political situation and the fallout of depriving democratic rights of people in J&K, terming the move as punishment and disempowering people.
Speaking on the occasion, Wani told the office bearers that people’s issues  have always been paramount to Congress Party, which is known for its services  and sacrifices, so they (Party Cadre) need to work harder to ensure redressal of public grievances, who are feeling isolated and disappointed due to Govt’s certain wrong policies and lackadaisical attitude towards people.
“BJP Govt at Centre is  apparently punishing people by depriving them of their democratic rights thereby leaving them unheard and  disconnected with the administration in absence of  democratic process that  provides the opportunity to elect representative, who represent them (people) at appropriate forums to seek redressal of their developmental and other needs, which is not being allowed to happen in J&K,” PCC chief said and added that Congress will leave no stone unturned to highlight and ensure redressal  of people’s sufferings besides  safeguarding  their rights, which are under assault since BJP Govt assumed power at the Centre.
Wani reviewed the organizational affairs and activities in all the districts of Kashmir while laying emphasis over working harder to further strengthen the Party and highlight public issues for their resolution. Congress believes in serving and unifying people, but the BJP Govt is punishing people and neglecting their needs,  he rued.
PCC senior vice president GN Monga said that people have great expectations from the Congress Party and we should work together with dedication to seek redressal of their grievances.
Prominent among others who addressed the meeting included Mohd Anwar Bhat, Surinder Singh Channi, Abdul Gani Khan, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khanday, Gulsher Khan, Shameema Raina, Shameema Iqbal, Mir Iqbal and Fayaz Ahmad Mir.
