JAMMU, Jan 24: Setting the ball rolling for series of events chalked out in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister, to commemorate the Republic Day celebrations in the winter capital, Radio Kashmir Jammu, organized a ‘Sham-e-Gazal’ at the Police Auditorium, here today.
Today’s concert which figured well known invited Gazal singers, was a treat for the audience who enjoyed soulful rendition of poetry of well known Urdu poets of the country.
The musical evening started with Shashi Lata Virk of AIR Delhi who is presently running a music academy in Canada. She began her recital with gazal of Paras Kousar Jaipuri; “Rehne Na De Ga Chein Se Dard-e-Jigar Kahin, Dil Hai Kahin, Dimaag Kahin, Nazar Kahin”. It was followed by poems of Ahmad Faraz, Khatib Gaznabi and Khimav Akbrabadi.
Next singer Roshan Bharti, from AIR Jaipur, who gave a highly entertaining recital began with Faiz Ratalmi’s poem; ” Hum Ek Baat Kahein Aagr Bura Na Lage, Khuda Karei Tumhein Iss Dour Ki Hawa Na Lagai”. When he sang Shahid Kabir’s poetry; “Be-Sababb Baat Barhane Ki Zaroorat Kaya Hai”, followed by poems of Sagar Faraz and geets of Hasrat Jaipuri, Roshan Bharti received ovation from the audience who requested him to sing gazals of their favorite poets.
Those who gave accompaniment to singers included Sayeed Ahmed Khan, invited Sitarist from AIR, Delhi, and local musicians like Arvind on Synthesizer, Sahil Jasotra on Octapad, Rakesh Anand on Flute, Semi Feroz on Tabla and Shivinder Kumar on Guitar.
Chief Guest of today’s function was Khem Lata Wakhloo, Chairperson, J&K Social Welfare Advisory Board, while others prominent person on the occasion included Saujanya Sharma, Director Tourism, senior lawyer S S Anand, K C Dubey, former director, AIR Jammu. Today’s concert started with welcome address by Ravi Magotra, Program Head, Radio Kashmir Jammu. The proceedings of the program were conducted by Sunita Bhagat.
