RAMBAN, Dec 9: To ensure smooth movement of traffic on NH-44 during winter months, the Traffic Police has taken special steps to regulate the movement of tankers between Kud and Batote and has designated parking places for these vehicles in case of closure of NH-44 during snowfall. Now the filled Tankers will move from Jammu to Kashmir only through this route.
This was informed by SSP Traffic NHW, Rohit Baskotra while addressing a press conference here today.
The SSP also said that in Patnitop and Banihal sectors besides NH-44, BRO, NHIDCL, district administration and local police have been asked to remain ready with snow cutters, snow clearance machines, sand and urea in case of blockage of highway during snowfall.
He said that till now in this month as many as 2300 Challans have been done and 80 vehicles have been seized.
Baskotra informed that in this month as many as five FIRs were registered against the drivers for overloading wherein one FIR was for illegal modification of a bus.
He said that 4 Special Interceptor vehicles and 28 motorcycles, four state of the art vehicles fitted with automatic number plate cameras and speed guns have been pressed into service between Udhampur and Banihal to check rash driving.
The SSP also said that accidents on NH-44 have been decreased considerably this year but Dhalwas and Mehad continue to remain major bottlenecks on NH-44.
He said that no commercial vehicle should be used as a school bus as this is against Supreme Court directions.
