Peddler nabbed with poppy straw

Srinagar, Dec 9: Police today arrested a drug peddler in north Kashmir’s Handwara and recovered poppy straw from his possession.
As per authorities, a team of officers led by Incharge Police Post Chogal under the supervision of senior officers at a checkpoint established at Pohrupeith intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.
“During search, officers recovered 4kgs of poppy straw meticulously concealed in a bag from his possession. He has been identified as Aqib Ahmad Najar son of Ab Qayoom Najar resident of Sopore. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Accordingly, police said, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in the police station and further investigation has been initiated.
