JAMMU, Dec 10: DISHA (Development Initiative for Self-Reliance and Human Advancement) India organized a get-together today for launching of new projects – DISHA Senior Citizens Empowerment Centre and DISHA Students Counseling Center, at a simple but impressive function here at Anand Nagar, Bohri.
The programme was attended by a large number of people including women,children and senior citizens from cross section of society. Arun Kaul, Managing Director, Adonis Medical Systems Pvt .Ltd, Chandigarh was the chief guest and Prof. O. N. Koul, the guest of honor.
The Chairman, of DISHA, P.K.Kaul, in his address, highlighted the achievements of DISHA-India since its inception in the year 2004. As many as 350 girls mostly the school dropouts in the migrant camps have been provided training free of cost in cutting/ tailoring/stitching, embroidery and toy making. Besides, 300 boys and girls from underprivileged families have been trained in computer basics.
He said during past three years, as many as 60 students mostly girls from under privileged families, have been provided monthly scholarship for continuing their education under the Project DISHA Students Scholarship Programme. Besides, some elderly who are not covered by any social security scheme like pension, are being provided financial support on regular monthly basis.
Today, two new projects under the name of DISHA Senior Citizens Empowerment Centre and DISHA Students Counselling have been launched. The elderly people who are most isolated or have fallen through the family network will be supported for their Social, emotional, logistic and health care needs. Further, the students from less privileged sections will get regular counselling at the Center.
Ten elderly families have been selected to be taken up for support. Besides, scholarship has been sanctioned and released in favor of 12 students.
Koul emphasized the need to reach out to more such families so that the benefits accrue to a large section of the target group.
