JAMMU, Dec 10: Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jayesh Gupta today lambasted the J&K administration for not releasing old age pension to deserving citizens.
Addressing a press conference, Jayesh said that over one year has passed when the J&K Government stopped pension of thousands of old age people as well as widows and handicapped and asked them to apply for the pension afresh through online mode.
He alleged that facing all types of hurdles, these hapless people fulfilled all type of formalities and for that they had to wander from one department to another several times but their files were rejected on flimsy grounds and even those whose files were approved, they are not getting pension for last several months.
Jayesh stated that many well off people have secured PHH ration cards in the Union Territory, just to take undue benefit of the Government schemes while thousands of poor and deserving people are still without PHH ration cards though they have fulfilled all the formalities to get the same.
The AAP leader said on one hand, BJP Government in the Centre and its leaders are asking the citizens to avail the benefit of the welfare schemes initiated by the Government but on the other hand, the officers sitting in closed rooms of the Government departments are denying the benefit of these schemes to even eligible people.
He appealed Lt Governor Manoj Sinha as well as newly appointed Chief Secretary to intervene personally so that the deserving and needy old age/handicapped people may get benefit of the pension given by Social Welfare Department.
