DC Leh bags ECI’s Award

page1-7NEW DELHI, Jan 25: The Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Simrandeep Singh has been selected for the best electoral practices award by the Election Commission of India on the National Voters’ Day- 2014.
The Award has been given to Simrandeep for carrying out outstanding implemention of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation Plan (SVEEP) in Leh District during the ongoing Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls. Singh carried out SVEEP, in Leh, in convergence with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Rural Development Department, Higher Education Department, Doordarshan, Leh and NHPC.
In a series of activities,kick started by the DC on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Dalai Lama, special Gram Sabhas were held in the entire district on  October 3 and 9, 2014 in which village wise voter lists were read out and relevant corrections were made on spot. Further special camps were held in all 9 blocks of the district for voter education. Street plays were held in different Polling stations and all attempts were made to reach out to Probable Ladakhi voters residing outside Leh.As a result, Leh District was able to achieve hundred percent Photo Electoral Coverage, besides meeting complete targets of EP and Gender ratios.
DC Leh figures among two other DCs in the country to get this award this year, the others being DC Chamrajnagar in Karnataka and DC Saran in Bihar. The Award was given to them in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on  January 25, 2014 by the President of India. The Award carries a Citation and a cash component of Rupees Fifty Thousand.This is the first time since the institution of Award that a DC from Jammu and Kashmir has been awarded by the ECI.
