JAMMU, Dec 14: District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu has extended gratitude to the Lt Governor of J&K UT, Manoj Sinha for implementing, Anand Marriage Act in the Jammu and Kashmir.
DGPC Jammu president, Ranjeet Singh Tohra along with Balvinder Singh vice president, Surjit Singh general secretary, Ranvir Singh joint secretary, Jagpal Singh cashier, Harjit Singh & Gurmeet Singh Incharge Dharam Parchar DGPC Jammu and Tejinder Singh member DGPC and Incharge implementation of Punjabi in JKUT while addressing a press Conference here today expressed heartfelt gratitude to Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha for implementing the Anand Karaj Marriage Act, addressing the longstanding demand of the Sikh community of JKUT.
Tohra also extended thanks to individuals and organizations that tirelessly advocated for implementation of Anand Marriage Act in JKUT since long. He also acknowledged the instrumental role of Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of Minorities Commission, Government of India, in addressing the genuine demands of the Sikh community.
Balvinder Singh, vice president while urging upon the Government to consider other most genuine and just demands of the community, requested those Sikh leaders who have their influence in the establishment to work for the implementation of long pending Sikh demands like Inclusion of Punjabi language in JKUT official Bill 2020, grant political reservation to Sikhs of JKUT, to settle the long pending issues of refugees of PoJK, induction of Sikh member in JKPSC, inclusion of Sikh youth of Kashmir in SRO 425, provide additional ex-gratia relief to the NOK’s of those killed in 1989 anti- Sikh riots, establishment of Minority Commission in JKUT.
Sujit Singh stated that though the amended version of Anand Marriage Act was passed in the Parliament on June 7, 2012 but it took 11 years to get it implemented in JKUT.
Paramjit Singh president DGPC Baramulla and Nanak Singh president DGPC Anantnag also thanked JKUT Administration for implementing Anand Marriage Act and also highlighted the role of DGPC’s of JKUT in facilitating this implementation.
Meanwhile, All J&K 1947 PoJK Sharnarthi Intellectual Forum in a meeting held here today under the presidentship of Amrik Singh expressed gratitude to the JKUT Administration for implementing Anand Marriage Act in J&K.
General secretary of the Forum, Surjit Singh claimed that with the intervention of Home Minister, Amit Shah and also by the persuasion of MS Sirsa, secretary of All India BJP, the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha issued notification in this regard. The Forum further demanded official status to Punjabi language in UT along with nomination of a Sikh member in J&K Public Service Commission.
