JAMMU, Jan 27:  There was no exchange of sweets between the Army officials of India and Pakistan at Chakan-Da-Bagh on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on the occasion of Republic Day yesterday but the Border Security Force (BSF) and Rangers exchanged sweets at Octroi Post on the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector.
Official sources told the Excelsior that Army officials of India and Pakistan didn’t exchange sweets and fruits on the occasion of Republic Day yesterday at Chakan-Da-Bagh.
Officially, no reason was given for not exchanging the sweets but reliable sources said the Indian troops didn’t want to share sweets with Pakistan Army, which had tried to repeat BAT action in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district few days back and also tried to facilitate infiltration attempt by the militants.
Worthwhile to mention here that there had been no exchange of sweets between the two Armies on August 14 and 15, the Independence Days of Pakistan and India respectively and on the occasion of Eid in August in view of August 5 incident in which five Indian Army jawans had been killed by the Pakistani troops at the LoC in Poonch.
However, the BSF and Rangers exchanged sweets yesterday at Octroi Post in RS Pura sector.
The BSF side was represented by 94 BSF Commandant GS Dhariwal and 193 BSF Commandant Neeraj Dubey while Lt Col Shahid of 12 Chenab Rangers came from Pakistan side along with Company Commanders Javed Ahmad and Mohammad Asif.
The sweets exchange lasted about 10 minutes from 11.30 am to 11.40 am.
