These rural women of the mountainous district Doda are getting trained in firing and other tactics of fighting to defeat the evil designs of the enemy of peace.
“Motivated to play their roles in safeguarding their villages, these women came forward and opted for weapon training as over a dozen villagers were killed in Kulhand massacre by the terrorists in the year 2006,” sources informed.
Presently there are 875 VDGs comprising more than 6000 members of which only 4600 are paid.
These VDG members are given training in firing, area domination and patrolling.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda said these VDG members are doing well and helping the police and other security forces in keeping an eye on anti-national elements.
The SSP also said that police have set up firing ranges in Doda, Bhaderwah and Gandoh where these VDG members are being trained and where they undergo firing practice in routine.
