CHRI holds CME on TB elimination at GMC Baramulla

SRINAGAR, Dec 19: The Centre for Health Research and Innovation (CHRI) organized one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) on the Programmatic Management of Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (PMTPT) at Government Medical College, Baramulla.
CHRI, in collaboration with the Department of Chest Medicine at GMC Baramulla, conducted the CME under the Joint Effort for Elimination of Tuberculosis (JEET), a global fund-supported project.
The event was attended by Professor (Dr) Naveed Nazir, Chairman of the State Task Force Committee NTEP J&K; Professor (Dr) Ruby Reshi, Principal GMC Baramulla; Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, Medical Superintendent AHGMC Baramulla; heads of departments of the Medical College; senior faculty members; PG students; and NTEP officials.
Dr. Shumail Bashir, Associate Professor, and Nodal Officer NTEP GMC Baramulla, spoke on PMTPT, discussing the treatment algorithm for screening the high-risk population and the importance of contact tracing of active tuberculosis patients.
Dr. Wasim Iqbal, Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, addressed the challenges in diagnosing TB among children and highlighted the importance of the PMTPT program.
Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah, Chairman of the State Task Committee NTEP, emphasized the challenges in managing tuberculosis and stressed the significance of Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) for the high-risk population.
He urged working doctors to adhere to PMTPT guidelines for screening latent tuberculosis in high-risk individuals and emphasized screening household contacts of pulmonary TB patients and initiating TPT among eligible contacts.
Professor (Dr) Ruby Reshi, Principal GMC Baramulla, in her inaugural address, commended the organizers for arranging the CME on this important national interest public health program.
Professor (Dr) Abdul Majid, Chairman TB Core Committee GMC Baramulla, detailed ongoing efforts to raise community awareness about tuberculosis prevention measures and highlighted outreach health programs in various locations.
Kifayat Wani, District Supervisor Project JEET, presented efforts made to implement the PMTPT program in district Baramulla. The session concluded with a question-answer session and participant felicitation.
