NIA takes over Kokernag encounter case

Srinagar, Dec 20: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the investigation of the Kokernag, Anantnag encounter case.
After the Ministry of Home Affairs notification, the NIA took charge of the case and registered it with FIR number RC-04/2023/NIA/JMU at the Jammu Police Station of the agency. The agency will initiate a detailed investigation into the encounter case.
The FIR includes Section 302 and 307 of IPC; 7, 25, 27 of Arms Act and Sections 16, 18, 19, 20, 23, 38 and 39 of UAPA.
The Kokernag encounter that took place on September 13 this year claimed the lives of three senior officials from the Army and Police. They include Colonel Manpreet Singh, recipient of the Sena Medal in 2021, Humayun Muzamil Bhat was Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Major Aashish Dhonchak of 19 Rashtriya Rifles.
In the seven-day-long encounter, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Uzair Khan was also killed along with another terrorist.
