Koul urged political parties to gear up for the Assembly elections, citing the recent Supreme Court verdict on the matter. “The Supreme Court verdict has been rendered, and I believe all political parties should initiate preparations for the upcoming assembly elections, expected before September. The BJP stands fully prepared for the elections,” he said.
Responding to concerns about the acceptance of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Article 370 in the Valley, Koul reiterated the BJP’s stance that all parties should respect and acknowledge the apex court’s decision.
“The Supreme Court is the highest authority in democratic India. Our position is clear; every decision made by the Supreme Court should be accepted by all. While people may have their opinions, our stand is that everyone should respect the verdict of the Supreme Court,” he added.
Commenting on the recent expulsion of MPs from Parliament, Koul expressed dismay at the lack of respect for the country’s institutions.
He criticised the opposition’s actions and said they have made a mockery of Vice President. “One of their big leaders even capturing the act on video. The degradation of democratic institutions is unprecedented. This exhibits their loss in three states. No one should make a mockery of democratic institutions as they have done,” he said.
