PRP Bill addresses evolving needs of print media: INS

JAMMU, Dec 22: President of Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Rakesh Sharma today said that Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023 addresses the evolving needs of the print media industry in the digital age.
In a statement issued on behalf of members of the Society, regarding passing of Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill 2023, in Lok Sabha yesterday, the INS president said this momentous occasion marks a crucial step towards modernizing the regulatory framework governing the press in India by replacing the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867.
He appreciated the efforts of lawmakers in recognizing the importance of updating legislation to meet contemporary challenges faced by the vibrant and dynamic print media.
Sharma further mentioned that the Society is committed to working closely with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during the subsequent stages of the legislative process, contributing insights to further refine the regulatory framework.
