Jammu Admn orders closure of hotel in Jewel Chowk area

JAMMU, Dec 22: The Jammu Administration has ordered the closure of a hotel in Jewel Chowk area following revelations of illicit gambling activities within the hotel’s premises.
The Additional District Magistrate Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal, took a decisive action in the matter after the SSP Jammu reported that a raid conducted on December 16-17 uncovered nine individuals, including the manager of Hotel Oscean Grand, engaged in gambling.
A case under FIR number 191/2023 was accordingly registered against them Under Sections 3/4 of the Gambling Act 1867.
Citing the gravity of the violations and the larger public interest, an order issued by ADM Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal, read, “whereas it is evident that violations have been committed and the undersigned is convinced that any kind of commercial activity in the said hotel is detrimental to larger public interest and needs to be prohibited.”
Consequently, the order mandated the immediate cessation of all commercial activities at Hotel Oscean Grand and its closure.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Department Jammu has been directed to initiate the necessary process for the cancellation of the hotel’s registration under relevant rules and laws.
Tehsildar Jammu Khas has also been instructed to promptly execute the closure and sealing of Hotel Oscean Grand in Jewel Chowk.
