SRINAGAR, June 24: Army has refused to allow 19 members of few militant families to return to Kashmir after they were trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) near Aman Setu in Uri yesterday.
A senior Army officer said here that 19 members of few families were trying to cross the LoC yesterday near the Aman Setu but Army asked them to follow proper procedure for returning to their homes.
These families had gathered near the Aman Setu and wanted to cross illegally without any documents but army refused to allow them in. However, these families were desperate to return, said the Army sources.
Large number of youth, who had gone to PoK for arms training during the last two decades, wanted to return home following announcement of Rehabilitation Policy for them by the State Government.
But the policy has failed to take off as Government said there was no cooperation from the Pakistani side. The Rehabilitation Policy has fixed four points of entry into India for militant wanting to legally return to India. These are the IGI Airport in Delhi, the Wagah border in Punjab, and Poonch and Uri at the LoC.
But non-cooperation from the Pakistani authorities forced the people, who wanted want to return to use illegal routes. As a result, over the last two years, just about a 100 men have returned, most of them clandestinely from Nepal .
Over 100 youths, who had gone to PoK for arms training during the last two decades, have returned home following announcement of Rehabilitation Policy for them by the Government.
