JAMMU, Jan 29: The Mission Director NRHM, Dr Yashpal Sharma has urged for plugging of gaps in the delivery of essential services through action at various levels of the healthcare delivery system so that Maternal & Child Deaths are checked effectively in the hospitals & at community levels.
Speaking at one-day workshop on Maternal & Child Death Review organized by National Rural Health Mission J&K here at Conference Hall State Health Society, Nagrota, Dr Sharma said, that though every Maternal & Child death is an unfortunate incident, there are valuable lessons to be drawn from each such incident so that the underlying causes can be addressed through well knit healthcare delivery system, adding that the action plans and schemes under National Rural Health Mission provide reliable and assured remedial measures to check avoidable Maternal & Child Deaths.
Dr Baldev Sharma, Director Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization also addressed the participants during the inaugural session and stressed for reporting of Maternal and under 5 deaths so that the necessary corrective measures can be taken in time.
He said the purpose of workshop on Maternal & Child Review is to establish a mechanism through which all deaths are reported, investigated and then accounted for, adding that it at the same time apprises the concerned authorities at the Block and District level if there is clustering of deaths in particular villages or populations, so that the social determinants and systemic causes leading to death can be further explored and necessary actions taken through the public health system and multi sectoral convergence.
The inaugural session was followed by technical session in which detailed presentations on Maternal & Child Death Review were made by Dr Harjeet Rai, Divisional Nodal Officer Jammu, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Divisional Nodal Officer Kashmir, Dr. Younis Mushtaq Associate Programme Manager & Dr. Arshid Nazir Assistant Program Manager State Health Society. The participants were sensitized about the latest guidelines of MoH&FW, GoI on Maternal & Child Death Review and the reporting mechanism at Community as well as Facility Level.
