SRINAGAR, Dec 23: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, today demanded compensation for the families of three people from Poonch who were mysteriously found dead at the encounter site.
Addressing a press conference here, Mehbooba stated that until an inquiry is held in this regard, the administration must ensure compensation for the families of the deceased and those who have suffered injuries.
She pointed out that in the last few years, there has been an increase in incidents of militancy in the area, and a number of individuals involved in such acts- all outsiders-have been killed.

“While the BJP keeps claiming to have set things right in J&K, today in Rajouri and Poonch, security personnel are being killed. Despite arrests and other measures taken by the Government, the situation is the opposite,” she remarked.
“What kind of Khushal Kashmir is this where people are not safe, and even security personnel are not secure? Their claims do not align with what we see on the ground” she said.
Mehbooba appealed to LG Manoj Sinha that until an inquiry is conducted, necessary measures in the form of compensation should be taken.
“I appeal that the three men killed in Poonch should each be compensated with Rs 50 lakh until an inquiry is conducted. Additionally, the injured should receive Rs 5 lakh each” she said.
