Magisterial probe ordered into custodial death of man

JAMMU, Dec 27: A magisterial probe has been ordered into the death of a man in custody of Jourian Police.
According to reports, complying to the arrest warrant issued by 2nd Additional District Judge Jammu in a money dispute case of the year 2014, Jourian Police in the evening of December 21 arrested the accused Sunil Kumar alias Sonu of Garhi-Bishnah (Jourian).
The accused was to be produced before the court on next day but as he was not feeling well, he was taken to CHC Jourian for treatment in the morning of December 22 where he did not respond to the treatment and was declared dead by the doctors.
On the same day, the post-mortem of his body was conducted by a board of doctors in GMC Jammu in the presence of the magistrate and videography was also done. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Jammu also ordered a magisterial probe into custodial death of the man. The probe is to be conducted by SDM Khour.
As relatives of the man raised questions on the circumstances surrounding his death, police had denied any foul play. A senior police official said the entire premises including the lockup of police post Jourian, are under CCTV surveillance with both video and audio recording, so there is no chance of any foul play.
