SAMBA, Dec 28: Rathkhada fair started in Narsingh temple of Ghagwal, near here today. The fair is held in the courtyard of Shri Narsingh Temple. According to Hindu belief, on this day the chariot of Lord Sun remains stationary for three days and after that starts moving towards the North. During these three days the days and nights are believed to be equal and after three days the night becomes shorter. And the days start getting longer.
The history of the fair is centuries old. This fair is also called Kambal Mela and Pahari Mela because throughout the year the hilly people make warm clothes and blankets with their own hands which they come and sell in this fair. Since last many years till today even in the hilly areas people from many different hilly areas including Bani, Basoli, Machhedi, Doda, Bhadarwah participated in the fair to do their business. Many families of Muslim community also participate in it.

There is a lot of enthusiasm among the local people about the fair. Especially for this day, the local youth have personally decorated the entire temple with different flowers.
There is also provision of langar for local and outside devotees during the fair in Shri Narsingh Temple. District Development Council (DDC), Chairman, Suresh Kumar Falli said that in this temple, people from all the surrounding villages offer the first part of their crop and wish for a good next crop. This bhandara is organized with the same grains along with this some other people also offer a lot of grains in the temple.
BDC president, Ghagwal, Vijay Tagotra said that the fair has received full support from the district administration, on behalf of the Tourism Department and local artists are displaying their art in the temple. Some local traders also come to do their business and earn good profits. SSP Samba, Benam Tosh, SP Surinder Choudhary, ADC Suresh Chander, SDM Ghagwal, BDO Ghagwal, Tehsildar Ghagwal and many other officers were also given blessings.
